Unique Cake Inspiration and Cake Obsessions

I recently created a board on my Pinterest account called “Eat Cake” because, why not? Cakes are delicious, really pretty to look at and make special occasions even better. Oh and next month is my birthday month so it’s been on my mind even more, you can’t have a birthday without a slice!
a party without cake is just a meeting
Actually the obsession started a long time ago, probably when I was a child, I always loved baking with my mom and I still love baking today. It really got into full swing a few years ago when I went to a Design Sponge book signing at Anthropologie here in Vancouver. There was a cake on a table waiting to be cut and I couldn’t stop looking at it, it was so unique, I’d never seen anything like it before. Back then I didn’t have a smart phone, so I couldn’t snap endless photos of it. It was a very funny and cute shaggy pink dog and it stuck in my memory until I went home later and googled about it. I discovered it was created by the very awesome Lyndsay Sung from coco cake land. If you go to her website you’ll discover so many great tutorials, recipes and awesome photos of all of her creations. Recently, Lyndsay posted about the amazingly talented Katherine Sabbath and the stunning Linda Lomelino, since then I’ve been a little cake obsessed.

I don’t just look at cakes, I like to make them too. I’ve got a couple of my own recipes, they’re not as crazy as the ladies I’ve mentioned above, but if you’re looking to make something simple with lots of flavour, try these out:
