Huge Canvas Art Update

Large scale art in a loft apartment by niche canvas

I’ve been thinking about updating the art in our space for a while now. Being home during COVID-19 sure makes you look at your walls a lot and notice how things just aren’t quite right, but I didn’t want to go shopping for art in actual stores, because…COVID. ugh.

I was going to DIY some paintings, but I already did that for our front entrance, there’s only so many random abstract pieces I can make and actually enjoy haha. In the past, our dining space had a gallery wall (that got tired fast, it was so cluttered and gave me anxiety. Most recently it had a canvas that felt too small for the wall, so this is my advice, do not feel scared to go large!!

This is the same space, our style was very different when we first moved in here.

I recently found Niche Canvas, they have high-quality printed canvas using UL Certified Greenguard Gold Ink which prevents it from fading or cracking. They have lots of subjects to choose from, nature, landscapes, abstracts and more. I’m pretty picky with art but after some browsing, I fell in love with this photo taken of glaciers in Iceland. The mood and colours were just perfect. It’s even more amazing in person, the canvas has a matte texture, unlike some other printed canvas I have, which is smooth and coated and not nearly as nice.

Iceland has been one of those places on my travel list, so I figure it would be good motivation to hang a photo of a huge glacier on our wall so that someday when travel is allowed again I can start thinking about heading to the land of glaciers and icy blue mineral pools. It’s nice to dream. It also really works with the design elements we have in our loft. In recent years we’ve been slowly switching to more of a Nordic Scandinavian feel.

With Niche Canvas you can also choose a black floating frame for most of their prints which is a really nice upgrade, it truly makes the art pop on the wall. It’s the touch of black our dining space needed.

I also love the little things like the fact that they include mounting hardware so it’s all ready to go when it arrives, no searching through our toolbox or a trip to the hardware store (especially during COVID times, yuck). Here are some photos of the mounting hardware, metal bracks and rubber bumpers at the bottom:

I went with the largest print size because the walls in our loft are 18ft tall so they can handle art that is 60″ x 40″ but honestly even if you have lower ceilings, a piece like this would be beautiful behind a bed or as a feature above a sideboard like I have done in our space. Get creative where you hang your art, it’s all about setting a mood.

For easy install we used painters tape to mark where the hanging brackets are on the back.
