Tushy Bidet Attachment Review with Toto Aquia Toilet (not sponsored)

Tushy Bidet attachment fail

I’m writing this post to save you the aggravation I went through to try and hook up my Tushy bidet attachment. I will admit as a graphic designer I was a sucker for their cheeky marketing and modern sleek minimalist design. I thought about it for months and even survived the 2020 COVID-19 toilet paper shortage without it. But then I just made the plunge and purchased it because I found a great promo code that saved money plus free shipping.

Due to COVID-19 their supplies were short, so it took about 2 months to get to me. During that waiting period, I realised I couldn’t access the water supply on my toilet where their plastic “mega adaptor” would connect because I have a modern Toto toilet that is skirted so it covers the water hookup. So I contacted their customer service sent some photos and they mailed out a metal adapter that connects lower down at the water shut-off. I thought, yes! Crisis averted, all will be okay!

My Tushy bidet arrived and I unboxed it immediately and disconnected my toilet seat, hooked up the Tushy connections which was super easy, until I went to attach the Tushy with my toilet seat. I discovered the existing screws on my toilet were not long enough! No!!!

I contacted Tushy customer service again and they pointed me to a link on Amazon for parts which would cost me over $50 for shipping here in Canada and I’m not even sure they are the right size screws for my Toto toilet. They also suggested going to local hardware shops and plumbing shops with my existing screw to look for longer screws. So the next day I did that. I went to 5 places, Home Depot, Canadian Tire and a few local plumbing speciality shops. The best I could find was a bolt, but it still wasn’t long enough and the head wasn’t flat enough to be covered by the seat caps. Apparently I need an M6 stainless steel screw that is 75mm or longer. I searched online with no luck unless I wanted to pay crazy shipping fees or set up a wholesale account. I’m frustrated that Tushy doesn’t supply screws with their product. Apparently other more affordable bidet attachments come with universal extension screws. This is a complete fail. I don’t even want to attempt to return it because their customer service just disappeared once I had paid and got my Tushy.

My toilet brand is a Toto Aquia skirted toilet. You’d think it would fit a common modern brand that is currently on the market, but I guess the Tushy is best suited to older model toilets where you can access the screws from underneath.

So I’ve got a Tushy bidet I can’t use after spending over $125 USD even after I used a promo code.

The cost. I live in Canada and didn’t realise I was paying USD until I saw my credit card bill. I went back to their site and saw the USD symbol was small and grey, so just be aware when you check out it is in USD. I was likely so distracted by entering the promo code I didn’t notice the USD symbol.

Overall, I don’t recommend this bidet attachment if you have a modern toilet, it should be okay on a more basic toilet or older model where you can access the screws from underneath.

I hope this story saves you the frustration and money.

I will be sure to update this post if their customer service ever gets back to me or finds a solution to what feels like would be a common problem.

This is disclaimer is on their website, I sure hope they come through with some real help, I can only imagine how many customers have a useless Tushy bidet sitting in their home due to this same problem.

UPDATE! Tushy Customer service pulled through in a big way. They purchased screws on Amazon for me and mailed them via FedEx directly to me. I don’t know if they’d do this for everyone, but if you are willing to take the risk with your purchase, be persistent with customer service if you’re having installation issues. I really think they should consider adding universal toilet screws to their package.

My Tushy Bidet is now fully installed and working and I have to say, it works great and it’s amazing, but it’s too bad I had to go through all that to get it installed, because their product is actually awesome.

Well damn! So sorry you had to go through that, but thanks so much for sharing the experience and making us aware.

    1. Thanks for reading. I hope their customer service comes through. They said they’re super busy, so maybe in a few weeks there will be a solution, but I’m not feeling confident.

    1. Hi Michael,

Thanks so much for following up and going to the extra level to find my blog post. I’m very impressed with your customer service. Thanks again!

  3. I’m actually having issues here as well. Just got mine sent to me and the screws are to short to fit through both. It’s a bit disappointing

    1. I highly recommend reaching out to their customer service and being a bit pushy with them about it. They will send you the screws if you push them hard enough. I just couldn’t find universal screws locally. Good luck!

Thanks for this. We just moved and now have a Toto Aquila II. Is that your model? We are having trouble getting the seat attached, even with the longer screws.
Once you have a bidet and know how good it is it is hard to accept that that clean bum joy might be gone. Welp.

    1. Hmm yes mine is the Aquia II, maybe your screws aren’t long enough? I know there are a few lengths of extended universal screws. I hope you can find a solution! Definitely reach out to Tushy, their customer service was very helpful.

Did you have any issues with the plumbing connections? My Toto has 1/2” connections and the bidet attachment I got has 7/8”, so I need to get a new T-adapter.
