Loft Kitchen Update

I’ve posted a few photos of our loft kitchen before, but it’s been a while and thought I’d share an update, because I’m the type of person that likes to constantly move things around.

We recently bought a larger stainless steel island and luckily we were able to sell the old one the same day! We upgraded to a large one, because we had the space and we really needed the extra storage underneath for our pots and pans and the extra counter space is pretty awesome.

Before I get into the photos, here’s a link to a previous post, showing the process of gutting the old loft kitchen and using recycled cabinets to configure a new kitchen layout.

Here’s how things currently look:

Incase you’re curious, yes we did paint our fridge, you can read about that over here.

Loft Bedroom Before and After

It occurred to me that I haven’t done any recent posts of our apartment. We’ve lived here for a couple of years now and things are finally feeling settled. After initial renovations and minor tweaks along the way, I’d say things are pretty much where we want them. There will always be things we want to update or change, but those projects will get done eventually and when our budget allows for it.

Today I’m sharing the loft bedroom. I haven’t posted anything about this space because whenever I think to take a photo it’s far too dark or messy, plus it’s a very awkward space to photograph.

Check out the before photos:

Smelly old carpet and a dark purple ceiling making the low ceiling height feel even lower.

Before and After: Vintage Dresser

After a few weeks of procrastination during the holidays, we finally finished this vintage dresser project. It’s come a long way since we first got it. It was cleaned, patched and brought back to life.

Here’s what it looked like before we started working on it, yes at first glance it doesn’t look too bad, but it was scary. It had 1000 spiders in it from being left outside, so that took a while to get it clean and remove the musty smells.

The wood veneer was very dry and chipped in several places, the only area that was in decent shape was the top surface, the legs and the decorative pieces on the drawer fronts.

Luckily we were table to remove the decorative pieces on the drawers, making the painting process much easier and cleaner. The bow tie handles were also removed and cleaned up.

The first test was to find out if the vintage hardware was pure brass or just plated. You can do this with a magnet. If it’s solid brass, the magnet will not stick, unfortunately ours was plated.

Food Plating Workshop with Chef Juno Kim

This past weekend I did a workshop with Chef Juno Kim. He is a Vancouver based chef that does pop-up diners, food styling, catering and cooking lessons. Check out his instagram account to see his beautiful creations and visit his website for more information.

Now for the details. The workshop was $35 (really great value!). We were all instructed to bring our phones, chargers and a notebook. The afternoon began at 1pm and the class gathered in the private room located at The Juice Truck’s retail location. There was a long table with containers of organic salads, vegetables and sauces. Class size was about 25 people, varying from chefs, food lovers and people just wanting to take better photos with their phone.

The Perfect Earl Grey Tea

Creamy Earl Grey Tea

I’m sharing a secret. I love Earl Grey tea and for years I thought I was enjoying a good cup, but then I went to a bridal shower at a local tea shop and discovered the most amazing Earl Grey tea on the planet. I’m not even exaggerating, it’s really that good.
