You probably read the title of this post and thought to yourself, ew gross, a yam smoothie? What is she thinking?! Well, don’t hate until you try it. A yam smoothie has quickly become my most favorite breakfast because it tastes like dessert. Think about it for a minute, yam is a similar texture and taste to pumpkin and once you read the recipe you’ll discover it’s basically pie in a glass. Yams are naturally a really great source of vitamin C and fibre so it’s a great way to start your day or boost your afternoon before or after […]
Homemade Blueberry Ice Cream Recipe There’s nothing better than homemade ice cream, once you try it, it’ll be hard to enjoy the store bought stuff. I have a few other ice cream recipes on here, check out Matcha Ice Cream and Chamomile Honey Ice Cream. It’s currently blueberry season here in British Columbia and there are fresh blueberries everywhere, so that’s how this blueberry ice cream recipe came about! I was going to just make a blueberry sauce and have it with plain ice cream, but then I thought, why not mix them together, I was worried it would water […]
This nori nut stick is the perfect snack for those times when you’re craving something salty and savoury like chips but want wholesome nutrients instead. Unlike a bag of chips, you only need 1 or even half of one of these sticks to feel satisfied. Note, I haven’t figured out an exact recipe so you’ll have to bare with me and experiment just like I did to get the right consistency. I’ve made them twice and realised you can’t really fail if you have a food processor and blend until everything comes together. Just make sure to ease up on […]
These healthy bounty bars are perfect for when you’re craving something sweet and chocolatey but don’t want to eat junk. I initially found the recipe through Erin Ireland, a local Vancouver food blogger that focuses on vegan recipes. She found it through Voila Vegan’s instagram page. I saw the photos and immediately needed to have one! As a kid I loved bounty bars so much, but as I’ve grown older they now taste way too sweet and I realize they are full of ingredients I just don’t need to eat. These bars are super easy to make! Ingredients: 2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut […]
When the good weather comes out it always inspires me to try new recipes and I’ve really been into incorporating plant based recipes into our regular routine because I physically feel better eating less meat and dairy. I’ve really been inspired by the Minimalist Baker in recent months and my latest recipe love are these Vegan Cheesecake Cashew Cups. With just 7 ingredients you can have a delicious dessert! They’re so creamy and satisfying, perfect for when you’re craving a treat but they’re still somewhat healthy.
I’ve become obsessed with dates. They are delicious on their own as a snack, but they’re also a great way to replace sugar in many recipes and baked goods or rethink the way you make traditional baked goods. This 2 layer no-bake date peanut butter bar recipe is refined sugar free but you’d never know because they’re so satisfying, chewy and delicious! Who knew a date peanut butter combo would be so good!
Before I get into this delicious vegan cashew nut cheese recipe, lets talk about food in general. Over the past few years I’ve really been looking at what I eat and where it comes from. My whole life I’ve avoided red meat simply because I don’t feel good when I eat it, it slows down my digestive system and I feel tired because of it. But recently I tend to avoid it because of how the animals are treated. The only meats I do eat are poultry, fish and occasionally bacon if I know it’s quality, hey I’m far from perfect. […]
This maple sea salt peanut butter oat bar recipe is so good and (somewhat) good for you too. Filled with healthy fats from coconut oil and natural peanut butter. I’d also consider them low sugar because it’s sweetened with maple syrup, but really I guess it’s still sugar, but better for you because it’s not refined white sugar. Although there is maple syrup in the oatmeal base too, you can make these delicious bars without the oatmeal base, they firm up in the freezer just as good without the oat base because of the coconut oil and the natural peanut butter, I’d even […]
I assume you’re reading this post because you’re an Earl Grey tea lover like myself and you love shortbread. This shortbread cookie recipe infuses the flavours and smells of classic Earl Grey tea with the creamy textures of shortbread. This recipe is perfect for the holidays for it’s simplicity and it’s not overly sweet. Indulge in these decadent shortbread cookies, they sound fancy, but they’re actually very easy to make. Earl Grey Shortbread Recipe
On weekends I like to indulge in a little baking and comfort food. This cheddar cheese scone recipe is one of my go to recipes for something quick and delicious for brunch or an afternoon tea. I have a Kitchen Aid Mixer so I make them in 1 bowl and it takes no time at all with virtually no mess. I just throw all the dry ingredients in the bowl, mix together and then add in the butter, cheese and finally the milk. When it all comes together I put it onto a cutting board and flatten the giant ball out […]
It’s been super hot in Vancouver this Summer and we’re currently experiencing a drought, which is kind of ironic for a city that’s known for it’s rain. I miss the rain and cooler weather, but I know it will come soon and I’ll be longing for the sunny days again. Anyway, I don’t do well with heat and I’ll do anything to try cool off, I like to indulge (a bit too much) in ice cream, but sometimes a little too much dairy can give me a stomach ache, so this recipe is an alternative for when you’re craving ice cream, but […]
You’re probably wondering, what on earth is babotie? Well it’s a South African spiced meat dish that has an egg and milk topping. It may sound a little strange, but it’s really delicious, especially if you like curry flavours. Growing up in a South African family, food was always a little different. My mom used to make babotie and I really loved it. I recently started making it myself because it’s so easy, has lots of flavor and lasts for a few meals. Enjoy the recipe!
