DIY Scrabble Christmas Ornament

Last weekend Andrew and I went to a local shop called Urban Source, to pick up a few craft supplies. If you live in Vancouver and haven’t been to this store, I really suggest you go there, they have just about everything, it’s awesome! We wanted to find all the Scrabble letters for both of our names, after scratching through the bin of letters, we were both in luck. I was excited to make a DIY Scrabble Christmas ornament!

This was such a simple and fun project! All it took was a bit of glue, some felt to mount the letters on and some string to hang them. You can use your imagination and customize this project however you wish, spelling out whatever words you want and adding other wood pieces to make it your own.

You will need:
scissors
glue
Scrabble letters
string
felt

Directions:
To make this Scrabble Christmas ornament, lay out a piece of felt and then place your letters on top figuring out how you’d like to align them. Once you know your layout, glue down each letter onto the felt. Use plenty of white glue. For the top of the ornament you’ll want to add a loop of string so you can hang it once it’s dry. Cut a 2 inch piece of string, fold it in half to make a loop and place it between the felt and the Scrabble letter, put plenty of glue here and press it down. Make sure all your pieces are lined up nicely, set it all aside to dry for a few days. Once it’s dry, trim the edges so the felt no longer shows and all you see are the beautiful wood letters.

If you local craft store doesn’t have Scrabble letters, try looking for old Scrabble games at the thrift store or maybe you have an old one in storage? It’s a great way to upcycle a game that’s missing pieces. You can also buy the letters online over here.

Sorry, non-super crafty gal here. I really like these, but what kind of glue did you use? Hot glue? Also, what kind of string did you use to hang them and how did you attach the string?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi,

I just used regular white glue and waited over night for it to dry, you could probably use hot glue, but I feel like the scrabble letters might pop off over time.
The string is honestly whatever I could find around the house, I think it was thin gold elastic string. The string gets sandwiched between the scrabble letter and the layer of felt I used as a backing, I placed extra glue in that area. Good luck! 🙂
