This Christmas I decided it was time to upgrade our style for something more simple and less colourful. My inspiration is Scandinavian themed, which usually means lots of neutral colours, soft whites, black, grey, silver and cream. I wanted to incorporate natural fabrics and a handmade vibe and items that would last for years without being too trendy. I purchased some of the items shown below, be sure to check out my instagram in the next few weeks to see what I ended up buying to make our Christmas more simple and minimalist this year.
Most importantly, Christmas and the holiday season isn’t about buying lots of stuff, it’s about feeling good, especially when the weather starts to get cold and gloomy. So if you’re not into shopping for accessories, I highly recommend introducing hygge or that feeling of cozy into your home.
How to create hygge?
1. Lighting. Add lamps, warm light, scented candles and if you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, use it.
2. Textures. Use your favourite blanket, warm socks and a sweater.
3. Atmosphere. Good music can really make a space inviting and cozy, curate a playlist for the season.
4. Self-care. It’s important to take care of yourself before others this time of year, your health and well being is the only way to survive the busy holiday season. Take a nap, read a book. Put down your phone. Take time to recharge.
Now, back to decor. I’ve gathered some inspiration below to help you achieve a more minimalist approach to the holiday season. All the sources are listed with links at the bottom.
