Pomegranate Seeds

The beautiful pomegranate is here and very ripe. Get them while you can, they’re so so good for you and full of amazing health benefits. I know what you’re thinking, it’s just such a pain to remove the seeds from the fruit and my kitchen gets super messy, why bother?!

Well first of all, Pomegranates contain fibre, antioxidants, vitamin K and C which are all things that can help fight off cold and flu season which is fast approaching. Secondly, it’s really not as hard as you think to remove the seeds.

Here’s the quick method I use to remove the Pomegranate seeds:

– Grab a large bowl filled with cold water
– Gently make a cut around the entire pomegranate outer shell, but not all the way through
– Gently pry open the fruit and flex the half around a bit to loosen up the seeds
– Submerge your fruit into the bowl of water
– Using your fingers, gently loosen the seeds from the fruit
– The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the white shell will float
– You can then easily remove unwanted bits and strain out the seeds from the water
– Doing all of this in a bowl of water prevents staining your entire kitchen red

There are alternative methods that I’ve found online. This method does work, but it’s super messy and the seeds don’t come out as easily as shown in this video:

I like to eat the seeds straight up as a snack throughout the day, it stops me from grabbing bad snacks to fight that 3pm urge to take a nap. Seriously, take a moment to enjoy this beautiful fruit, it’s worth it. If you really can’t be bothered to crack them open, they do make beautiful table decor placed in a bowl or lined up down the middle of your dinner table.
