Hey guys, I’m here again to share a few updates we did to our loft apartment in terms of home decor. I was lucky to partner with Article again to add in a few pieces to help refresh our space. Speaking of Article, did you catch my recent home tour with them? So let’s get into it, what did we add and what did we take away?
We did a bit of a makeover to our front entrance, we found that the entrance was a tight space and between the large bench (sadly I don’t have a photo of that bench, below is a very old photo) and the white console cabinet, it was feeling cluttered and awkward when there was more than one person in the hallway, so we simplified. I moved the white cabinet upstairs to our bathroom and we sold the wood bench, the one in the photo below and the newer bench, clearly, we realized a bench just wasn’t working here, no matter what size it was.

And here’s the after! You can also see that we painted the front door dark to really make a statement and it happens to work well with the dark wood and black metal on the new console table. Throwback to when we first moved in, the entrance had peel and stick vinyl tiles that were impossible to remove and the stairs were red, all that and more in this old post. The Taiga Console from Article fits perfectly on the wall next to the front door to our loft apartment, an ideal landing spot for shoes, keys and baskets full of everyday essentials like reusable grocery bags, sunglasses and other accessories.
We also get lots of light from the skylight above, so I was excited to have a wider console table to place a few plants, I have a feeling a few more plants will find a home here soon (you can never have too many plants!)
So you might be wondering, why exactly did we get rid of the bench, wasn’t it functional? Well, to be honest, it was becoming a catch-all for bags and other junk because it was too long and because of that we never actually sat on it. I hope to find a small wood stool to put in the space, kinda been eyeing this one also from Article, but for now, I’m enjoying how open the entrance feels and we sit on the stairs just across from the door if we need to lace up our shoes.
Just across from the entrance I replaced a hallway rug I have had for over 10 years, who knew a cheap rug from a big box store could actually last that long especially in a high-traffic area?! But I will admit, it was pretty gross… Anyway, it was time to part ways, and the Jota rug from Article was the right fit, literally. The hallway is exactly the same length as this rug and I liked that it feels soft yet durable for a high traffic location. We went with the Aqua Smoke colour because I knew it would blend nicely into our concrete floors, so it’s more about texture than bold pattern or colour.
Lastly, in our living space we added the Mast lamp in white and light oak and the Lucca pillows in yarrow gold velvet. These pillows were a scary addition for me, I never ever choose warm colours like yellow, orange or red, but I thought it would be fun to incorporate some of the yellow from our vintage sign into our sofa and honestly, pillows are the easiest most low-risk way to do it because they’re not a huge investment. I can’t wait to cuddle with these velvet pillows in the winter.

The Mast lamp was a nice addition to our reading nook, we rely a lot of natural light during the day and in the evening our living space has very poor overhead lighting, so this lamp helps light up the artwork on the wall or it can be adjusted easily if we’re wanting to read a book, I should note it conveniently came with an LED light bulb so I didn’t have to head out to the hardware store, it was ready to go.
The chair shown above is vintage and we’ve been wanting to get it reupholstered, but these rusty warm colours are coming back in style so I think we’ll wait it out for a while longer, for now I covered the back with this organic cotton table runner designed by Sarah Sherman Samuel for CauseBox, the colours match perfectly and it’s a fun graphic pattern for a touch of personality.
