It’s time! Remember back in the Summer time when I spent a few weekends canning so much fruit? To refresh your memory, check out my post on canning bourbon cherries. I also canned peaches and pears. But as I was saying, it’s time! Time to open the jars! Let me rephrase that, time to open a jar full of Summer! *happy dance*
Andrew and I are gifting a bunch of them for the holidays, so of course we have to try them, just to be sure they’re good enough to give as gifts. Pretty good excuse if you ask me. Plus, it’s very satisfying to open a jar of food that I didn’t buy in the store.
We canned fresh Okanagan cherries and thankfully spent the extra time to remove the pits, so all we had to do was pour them over home made vanilla ice cream and enjoy! They’re seriously so good. So good that you could just eat them straight from the jar with a spoon or add them to your holiday cocktails if you’re not into ice cream. The aroma is probably the best part, the ingredients really blended together over the last few months. The mix of vanilla beans, bourbon and fresh cherries, it’s just to die for! Last Summer was my first time canning and from now on it’ll definitely be an annual event! So worth the effort!
