Vegan Cheesecake Cashew Cups

visualheart-slider2

When the good weather comes out it always inspires me to try new recipes and I’ve really been into incorporating plant based recipes into our regular routine because I physically feel better eating less meat and dairy. I’ve really been inspired by the Minimalist Baker in recent months and my latest recipe love are these Vegan Cheesecake Cashew Cups. With just 7 ingredients you can have a delicious dessert! They’re so creamy and satisfying, perfect for when you’re craving a treat but they’re still somewhat healthy.

Get Organized With Custom Labels from Minted

Custom labels from Minted

Spring is in full swing, although in Vancouver it’s feeling more like Summer, it’s so warm! This time of year I love to freshen up my space, clean and dust everything, get rid of things I don’t need and most of all, get organized. I’ve recently discovered new custom labels from Minted.com to help me get organized. Minted‘s new labels are pre-designed but you can customize text and colours. They’re durable and a perfect way to customize and label containers, sports equipment, toys and even clothing. The labels are waterproof, non-toxic, laundry and dishwasher safe. Below are a few of my favorites, you can see […]

Using Texture and Pattern in Home Decor

spring-textures-interior-design

I love colour but generally don’t use too much in my own home decor and my client projects. I prefer working with textures. I like to keep my palettes neutral and calm with touches of colour but lately I’ve been really into mixing things up with texture and pattern. For Spring 2016, home decor is all about bringing in texture and pattern with items like textiles, metallic finishes, backsplash tiles and countertops, while keeping the colours minimal. I’ve gathered some inspiration below for a living space and a kitchen. Notice how the colours are cohesive so all the textures can work well […]

Reupholstered Mid-Century Chairs

visualheart chair reuphosltery

Last month I shared with you that our reupholstered mid-century chairs are happening! After a few weeks they were reupholstered and today we brought them home. You have no idea how excited and nervous I was. I have been wanting to get these chairs done for years, I had even blogged about how I wanted them to look after endlessly looking for inspiration on Pinterest, you can read about that over here. I was so scared they wouldn’t look the way I had imagined in my mind, plus I have serious commitment issues, so picking a fabric took forever. Finally going a head with […]

How To Make Rose Quartz Crystals

DIY Rose Quartz Crystals

I made Rose Quartz crystals and I still can’t believe it! This DIY project is easier than it looks. The idea came from the need for Rose Quartz for a work project relating to Pantone Colour of the year Rose Quartz. I really didn’t want to pay lots of money for real Rose Quartz from the rock and gem store and I really didn’t like the look of the fake ones from the big box home decor stores because they were usually over saturated with neon pink dye or just weren’t the right colour. This project takes about 20 minutes to make […]

Date Peanut Butter Bars, No-Bake and Sugar-Free

no-bake date and peanut butter bars

I’ve become obsessed with dates. They are delicious on their own as a snack, but they’re also a great way to replace sugar in many recipes and baked goods or rethink the way you make traditional baked goods. This 2 layer no-bake date peanut butter bar recipe is refined sugar free but you’d never know because they’re so satisfying, chewy and delicious! Who knew a date peanut butter combo would be so good!

A Totally Tea-riffic DIY Valentine

Valentine's Day DIY Card

A quick and quirky DIY Valentine that pairs well with a small gift for your girlfriend, boyfriend, mom, dad,  friend or anyone you love! It’s also great for birthday’s, anniversaries, or just because. I like that it doesn’t require a lot of craft supplies or skills, but it ends up being super cute, because in the end it’s the thought that matters.

Vegan Cashew Nut Cheese Recipe

Vegan Cashew Nut Cheese Recipe

Before I get into this delicious vegan cashew nut cheese recipe, lets talk about food in general. Over the past few years I’ve really been looking at what I eat and where it comes from. My whole life I’ve avoided red meat simply because I don’t feel good when I eat it, it slows down my digestive system and I feel tired because of it. But recently I tend to avoid it because of how the animals are treated. The only meats I do eat are poultry, fish and occasionally bacon if I know it’s quality, hey I’m far from perfect. […]

Maple Sea Salt Peanut Butter Oat Bar Recipe

Peanut Butter Oat Bar Recipe

This maple sea salt peanut butter oat bar recipe is so good and (somewhat) good for you too. Filled with healthy fats from coconut oil and natural peanut butter. I’d also consider them low sugar because it’s sweetened with maple syrup, but really I guess it’s still sugar, but better for you because it’s not refined white sugar. Although there is maple syrup in the oatmeal base too, you can make these delicious bars without the oatmeal base, they firm up in the freezer just as good without the oat base because of the coconut oil and the natural peanut butter, I’d even […]

We’re Getting Our Vintage Chairs Upholstered

vintage chair before

It only took just over a year, but we’ve finally started the process to get our vintage mid century chairs upholstered. I had written about it many months ago and now it’s finally becoming a reality! So far Andrew has refinished the wood and cleaned up the brass on the arms and legs. Here’s a before and after of that process. The arms and legs were sanded down to reveal the wood grain and a clear finished was applied. Here’s some before photos of the 2 chairs, one chair is obviously in better condition than the other, but both have holes […]

Home Decor Ideas with Pantone Color of the Year

home decor pantone 2016

It took me a long time to warm up to the Pantone 2016 colors of the year. I couldn’t figure out how I’d use them in home decor because I kept thinking of the 1980’s. I’ll admit, it wasn’t love at first sight, but then I started thinking about all the objects I admire that use these colors or various shades of them and realized they can be quite beautiful if they’re used in the right way. It’s all about perspective and style. There’s 2 colors, one is Rose Quartz and the other is Serenity. You can read more about […]
