Spring Florals

I’m don’t generally wear pattern or enjoy much pattern in my home, especially floral, but this Spring seems to be the most beautiful for floral graphics on accessories, clothing, stationery and home decor. It’s like the 80’s are back but with a modern twist, these florals have cleaner lines and punches of colour. Check out some of the items I’ve gathered below: Shoes by Fluevog / Dress by Modcloth / Purse by Kate Spade / Rings by Forever21 / Shoes by Native Shoes / Record Player by Urban Outfitters / Floral Clock by visualheart / Cups by Anthropologie / Pillow by Chapters-Indigo / Pillow by visualheart / Rug by Urban Outfitters

visualheart has a Society6 Shop

I recently launched a society6 shop to keep my creativity flowing while being unemployed. I ordered a few of my designs to check out the quality and I have to say it’s pretty great! The fabrics are polyester which makes them pretty durable and they are surprisingly soft. The graphics printed really clear too, I was worried about that because I work with a lot of my own photography. Society6 ships to Canada, my tip to keep shipping fees, border fees and extra taxes down, order pillows without stuffing, it makes the package smaller and you’ll likely avoid paying additional fees when […]

Art needed

Coming from a background in fine arts and a career in graphic design, you’d think i’d have plenty of awesome art on my walls. The truth is I struggle with having my own art on our walls. I do have a few paintings up from my past, but in all honesty I only have them up there so I don’t have to put them in storage. I’d rather have some unique illustrations or typographic prints. There’s something kind of sad about having paintings on my walls from 2005, which is probably the last time I picked up a paintbrush. I’ve […]

DIY Vintage Book Page Table Runner

For my friends bridal shower, I created a vintage book page table runner from old romance novels. Below, I’ll walk you through the steps to create your own for any event. Roll out your ikea paper to the length you want your table runner to be. This will be the base of your project. I found it easier to have something to glue the pages to instead of trying to glue the pages to themselves. You’re then going to carefully remove the pages from your books and lay them onto the paper glueing as you go. They don’t need much glue, […]

Party Favours

For my friends bridal shower, I wanted to create a simple and useable party favour. I purchased some tiny glass bottles from Michaels and filled them with Japanese Roasted Rice Tea. Then I designed and printed small labels to hang on the bottles with string from the dollar store. The photos explain it further.

Maurice Sendak you will be missed

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. This was a book near and dear to my heart throughout my childhood and all the way into my adult life. I just wanted to take a moment and thank the man that illustrated such beautiful stories and changed the way children’s literature was created.

Find Finds on a Budget: Spring 2012

I really love a good deal on home decor. Your home doesn’t have to look like you’re living on a budget, it’s all about mixing new with old and a few DIY projects, to create personality and warmth. I love finding affordable items at HomeSense. They have great deals on current trend setting items for your home. I’ve found the same styles at high end boutiques, but for way less. Today I stopped by on my lunch break and found a few cute spring trends I wanted to share.

Awesome Movie End Credits

I’ve started to notice that movie end credits are becoming more and more awesome. In some cases they are even better than the movie itself, leaving me secretly wishing the entire movie was done in the same style as the end credits. They usually have way more character and remind me of cartoons from when I was a child. These days everything is 3D, shiny and so perfect.  I miss things being a little rough around the edges. Velopalooza Vancouver

Last month I submitted a poster design to a contest for a Vancouver bicycle event, Velopalooza.ca. I recently found out that my design wasn’t picked, but I thought i’d share with you what I created. You can check out my submission and others at The Brixton Cafe 212 E. Georgia St. this Saturday, January 29th. This was the chosen design:
