Modern Brass Hardware

modern satin brass hardware pulls

If you’re following me on instagram you’ll know that I’m currently working on a new furniture makeover. It’s a vintage sideboard/cabinet with sliding glass doors and 3 drawers. Check out the before photo below. The dilemma with this piece was that I really wanted to change out the old brass hardware with something more clean-lined and modern. The round brass knobs set into the glass doors had to stay, so the new pulls on the drawers had to be brass. I can’t stand the look of shiny vintage brass, so I hunted online for satin brass hardware that’s been spotted […]

Black, White and Copper Kitchen Inspiration

black white and copper kitchen inspiration

I don’t know about you guys, but I constantly get this urge to remove all colour from my home and stick with a black and white scheme. I think I’ve been spending too much time on Pinterest looking at minimalist interiors. There’s just something so fresh about a clean white space with contrasting black accents and wood to warm it up. Then I always think about reality and how mostly every kitchen accessory we have is colourful, the fridge is green, the sofa is turquoise, our vintage chairs are colourful and so is every piece of art we have. I […]

Recipe Adventure: Diary-Free Blackberry Coconut Ice Cream

Dairy-free Blackberry Coconut Ice Cream Recipe

It’s been super hot in Vancouver this Summer and we’re currently experiencing a drought, which is kind of ironic for a city that’s known for it’s rain. I miss the rain and cooler weather, but I know it will come soon and I’ll be longing for the sunny days again. Anyway, I don’t do well with heat and I’ll do anything to try cool off, I like to indulge (a bit too much) in ice cream, but sometimes a little too much dairy can give me a stomach ache, so this recipe is an alternative for when you’re craving ice cream, but […]

Before and After: Vintage Laminate Dresser

painted dresser before and after

Check out this latest furniture makeover. The dresser was purchased for a steal at $20 and the drawers actually slide nicely and have rails, so they stay in place. So much potential! The laminate faux wood finish was in really rough shape, with chips and dents everywhere, but with the right paint and finishing process, it can be saved.

BlogPodium 2015

blogpodium-2015

BlogPodium 2015 is coming up September 26, 2015 and I’m so excited to meet fellow bloggers, listen to amazing speakers and just have a fun time. It’s my first time at this event, so I really have no idea what to expect, but from what I’ve heard, it’s pretty awesome! I’ve wanted to go to this event since it started, but never found the time, money or opportunity, but this year it’s in my own city, so that means no flights or time off work! The main speaker is Jillian Harris along with many other speaks sharing their knowledge about […]

Replica Eames Chair: Discussions on Quality

remodelista-eames-interior

The classic Eames chair. It never goes out of style. It’s beautiful and functional. In recent years there’s been so many companies selling replicas of the design, but I’m here to discuss quality. In an ideal world I would buy an actual Eames chair, because I’m all for quality and original design, but I just can’t afford to, even the vintage chairs in local antique shops are out of this world expensive. Considering I’d want to have 6 chairs in total for the office and dining area, the real deal just isn’t going to happen. When we first moved into […]

Front Door Hardware Update

modern door hardware

A few weeks ago I blogged about updating our front door hardware. Well the hardware arrived and we finally got around to putting it on the door. It’s awesome and the best part is it’s almost impossible to lock myself out of the house now! This was the before, a mismatched set of industrial locks. The only difficult part of the installation was getting the square backplates to line up and be level, but after a few adjustments it looks great. I’ve already noticed a huge difference in terms of function. When I come home with bags of groceries, it’s […]

Summer Style Essentials

Summer style essentials

Happy Summer everyone! I can’t believe it’s already here, although in Vancouver it’s been sunny and dry for weeks already, I just have no idea where the time has gone. I’m one of those people that loves the long days and bright skies that Summer brings, but I really don’t do well in the heat. I’m much happier under a tree in the shade wearing a hat and drinking cold water than tanning in full sun at the beach. I’m also very practical when it comes to Summer style, a good dress made from light fabric, comfy sandals, a hat […]

Front Door Hardware

Modern front door hardware by Emtek from Bradford Hardware

We’ve lived in our apartment for almost 4 years and when we moved in we said we’d change the front door hardware, but never really got around to it until now. We did a mini front door makeover by painting the door and replacing the numbers for something more modern, you can check that out here. The door really became an issue for me a few years ago when I locked myself out of our apartment because the middle lock in the photo below was set in the lock position from the inside and I wasn’t aware of it. When […]

Why You Should Buy A Grey Sofa

grey sofa

A modern grey sofa can be the most amazing piece of furniture for your living space. Why? Because it’s neutral, hides dirt and will last you many years through many design trends. Grey sofas aren’t boring or cold, in fact they’re quite the opposite. Grey fabrics come in so many different textures and shades that can feel warm and inviting. The big benefit is that grey is the perfect backdrop for any colour and pattern. So when trends come around, you can change up your throw pillows and blankets for fun colours and patterns each season and it feels like you’re changing […]

The Pink Flamingo is the New Pineapple

Pink Flamingo Fashion

Remember last year when the Pineapple took over the world. It was literally everywhere, from dresses, to home decor and even shoes. I posted about it last Summer because it was kind of fun and put a smile on my face even if it went a little out of control. This Summer the Pink Flamingo seems to be the new pineapple. Kate Spade seems to be the most into the graphic, she’s put it on dresses, tops, purses, watches and jewellery. I’m also seeing it at more affordable retailers, cute stuff for kids at Old Navy and Society6 has lots of great artist […]

Spring Style

Spring fashion style

I’ll admit, I’m not really a fashionista, I tend to dress pretty casual and practical, especially when Spring weather arrives. I like comfort and ease but it still needs to look good. On top of that I like a good deal. I’ve recently been liking Joe Fresh and Old Navy, they have surprisingly fun patterns and styles lately and at a good price. I picked up this cute patterned dress from Joe Fresh and I’ve been wearing it very casual with a pair of flat black sneakers, a long cardigan and leggings. It’s perfect for running errands and daily activities and […]
