Summer Style Essentials

Summer style essentials

Happy Summer everyone! I can’t believe it’s already here, although in Vancouver it’s been sunny and dry for weeks already, I just have no idea where the time has gone. I’m one of those people that loves the long days and bright skies that Summer brings, but I really don’t do well in the heat. I’m much happier under a tree in the shade wearing a hat and drinking cold water than tanning in full sun at the beach. I’m also very practical when it comes to Summer style, a good dress made from light fabric, comfy sandals, a hat […]

Front Door Hardware

Modern front door hardware by Emtek from Bradford Hardware

We’ve lived in our apartment for almost 4 years and when we moved in we said we’d change the front door hardware, but never really got around to it until now. We did a mini front door makeover by painting the door and replacing the numbers for something more modern, you can check that out here. The door really became an issue for me a few years ago when I locked myself out of our apartment because the middle lock in the photo below was set in the lock position from the inside and I wasn’t aware of it. When […]

Why You Should Buy A Grey Sofa

grey sofa

A modern grey sofa can be the most amazing piece of furniture for your living space. Why? Because it’s neutral, hides dirt and will last you many years through many design trends. Grey sofas aren’t boring or cold, in fact they’re quite the opposite. Grey fabrics come in so many different textures and shades that can feel warm and inviting. The big benefit is that grey is the perfect backdrop for any colour and pattern. So when trends come around, you can change up your throw pillows and blankets for fun colours and patterns each season and it feels like you’re changing […]

The Pink Flamingo is the New Pineapple

Pink Flamingo Fashion

Remember last year when the Pineapple took over the world. It was literally everywhere, from dresses, to home decor and even shoes. I posted about it last Summer because it was kind of fun and put a smile on my face even if it went a little out of control. This Summer the Pink Flamingo seems to be the new pineapple. Kate Spade seems to be the most into the graphic, she’s put it on dresses, tops, purses, watches and jewellery. I’m also seeing it at more affordable retailers, cute stuff for kids at Old Navy and Society6 has lots of great artist […]

Spring Style

Spring fashion style

I’ll admit, I’m not really a fashionista, I tend to dress pretty casual and practical, especially when Spring weather arrives. I like comfort and ease but it still needs to look good. On top of that I like a good deal. I’ve recently been liking Joe Fresh and Old Navy, they have surprisingly fun patterns and styles lately and at a good price. I picked up this cute patterned dress from Joe Fresh and I’ve been wearing it very casual with a pair of flat black sneakers, a long cardigan and leggings. It’s perfect for running errands and daily activities and […]

The Pros and Cons of Loft Living

loft apartment office

Over 3 years ago Andrew and I made the plunge to move in together and move into a loft apartment. It was all very exciting and new. It was also pretty stressful because we did a super rushed renovation before we moved in and I’ll tell you right now, never rush a renovation. The only reason we rushed ours was because of timing and we had the resources because my family works in the renovation business. Our space is 1,100 sqft with the bedroom and one of the bathrooms upstairs. The ground floor has a kitchen/living room space and a small […]

Kitchen Gadget Review

kitchen aid mixer

Let me just start by saying this post is not sponsored, I just felt like sharing some kitchen gadgets and tools I recently purchased that either failed or are surprisingly amazing. A couple of weeks ago a frequently used gadget in our kitchen broke after 9 year of use, a Paderno brand garlic press, the thing was solid, but one day I was pressing garlic and the thing snapped in half. So I had to find a replacement…and fast, because we love garlic! I shopped around but couldn’t find one that was 100% stainless steel, most have plastic pieces or just don’t […]

Before and After: Vintage Cabinet

vintage cabinet before and after

It’s finally done! It took a lot longer than expected because life and work got in the way, but I’m excited to share this before and after. The cabinet was in really rough shape. It was missing pieces of laminate on the front and sides and it originally had a second glass sliding door, but it was cracked in half, so we just tossed it out. We thought about replacing it, but it just wasn’t in our budget and we figured it would look great with just one door, exposing the colour inside. I spent a long time thinking about what to […]

Recipe Adventure: South African Babotie

south african babotie recipe

You’re probably wondering, what on earth is babotie? Well it’s a South African spiced meat dish that has an egg and milk topping. It may sound a little strange, but it’s really delicious, especially if you like curry flavours. Growing up in a South African family, food was always a little different. My mom used to make babotie and I really loved it. I recently started making it myself because it’s so easy, has lots of flavor and lasts for a few meals. Enjoy the recipe!

Recipe Adventure: Chamomile Tea and Honey Ice Cream

chamomile honey ice cream recipe

A few weekends ago I went out for ice cream with family at one of our favorite spots in Vancouver, Earnest Ice Cream. I tend to stick to my usual flavours whenever I go there, salted caramel or oatmeal brown sugar, but I do like to sample flavours every time I’m there, just incase I’m feeling spontaneous! I tried their Chamomile honey flavour and immediately fell in love. It was seriously good. Dreamy and delicious, in fact I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Somehow it was so delicate, yet the flavour was so strong. I thought to myself “I’m going to […]
