Christmas Card Design Trends at Minted

Minted metallic foil holiday cards

October is quickly coming to an end and you know what that means, suddenly Christmas will be near! Huuraaah! But along with the feelings of excitement and joy, that overwhelming feeling of getting things done sneaks in. One of those things is creating a unique Christmas card to give out to friends and family. The last few years I’ve been into sending out cards to the clients I work with as well as friends and family and making my own gift tags. I usually make the designs myself and print them locally, but with my schedule being fairly crazy this year, there’s just not […]

Craigslist Etiquette: Tips for buying and selling

Craigslist Etiquette

I’ve been selling stuff on Craigslist forever. I’ve sold tear outs from home renovations, appliances, old toilets, cabinets, housewares and furniture. I feel like over the years I’ve really developed a knack for knowing how to write a post. As much as I’ve sold stuff on craigslist, I’ve also purchased a lot over the years too. My purchases are mostly vintage furniture for our apartment and for our furniture upcycling projects. Going to strangers homes to buy something from a photo you saw online can be very scary, there’s a lot to consider and so I thought I’d share some tips and […]

Why I Dislike My Gas Range

frigidaire-professional-range

I decided to write about my gas range after having a few recent conversations with people helping them decide if they should go electric or gas. I used to be all about electric only because it’s what I grew up with and I had a mild fear about using gas, but when we moved into our place over 3 years ago, the gas bill was included in our strata fees and the gas line was already there, so it was a no-brainer to go with a gas range. I immediately got over my fear and now I’ll never go back. Since […]

My Blog Podium Experience

confetti-sparkle-sign

This weekend I went to my very first blogger conference. Blog Podium is a conference that has workshops and talks for bloggers or people who want to blog. The 3 key words to describe this event are connection, conversation and collaboration. I was so excited but also nervous to meet so many talented bloggers from Canada and the US. I walked in with my bag full of custom pencils to hand out instead of a standard business card in an attempt to be different. But I also had a few business cards on hand just incase. I was so overwhelmed […]

Modern Brass Hardware

modern satin brass hardware pulls

If you’re following me on instagram you’ll know that I’m currently working on a new furniture makeover. It’s a vintage sideboard/cabinet with sliding glass doors and 3 drawers. Check out the before photo below. The dilemma with this piece was that I really wanted to change out the old brass hardware with something more clean-lined and modern. The round brass knobs set into the glass doors had to stay, so the new pulls on the drawers had to be brass. I can’t stand the look of shiny vintage brass, so I hunted online for satin brass hardware that’s been spotted […]

Black, White and Copper Kitchen Inspiration

black white and copper kitchen inspiration

I don’t know about you guys, but I constantly get this urge to remove all colour from my home and stick with a black and white scheme. I think I’ve been spending too much time on Pinterest looking at minimalist interiors. There’s just something so fresh about a clean white space with contrasting black accents and wood to warm it up. Then I always think about reality and how mostly every kitchen accessory we have is colourful, the fridge is green, the sofa is turquoise, our vintage chairs are colourful and so is every piece of art we have. I […]

Recipe Adventure: Diary-Free Blackberry Coconut Ice Cream

Dairy-free Blackberry Coconut Ice Cream Recipe

It’s been super hot in Vancouver this Summer and we’re currently experiencing a drought, which is kind of ironic for a city that’s known for it’s rain. I miss the rain and cooler weather, but I know it will come soon and I’ll be longing for the sunny days again. Anyway, I don’t do well with heat and I’ll do anything to try cool off, I like to indulge (a bit too much) in ice cream, but sometimes a little too much dairy can give me a stomach ache, so this recipe is an alternative for when you’re craving ice cream, but […]

Before and After: Vintage Laminate Dresser

painted dresser before and after

Check out this latest furniture makeover. The dresser was purchased for a steal at $20 and the drawers actually slide nicely and have rails, so they stay in place. So much potential! The laminate faux wood finish was in really rough shape, with chips and dents everywhere, but with the right paint and finishing process, it can be saved.

BlogPodium 2015 is coming up September 26, 2015 and I’m so excited to meet fellow bloggers, listen to amazing speakers and just have a fun time. It’s my first time at this event, so I really have no idea what to expect, but from what I’ve heard, it’s pretty awesome! I’ve wanted to go to this event since it started, but never found the time, money or opportunity, but this year it’s in my own city, so that means no flights or time off work! The main speaker is Jillian Harris along with many other speaks sharing their knowledge about […]

Replica Eames Chair: Discussions on Quality

remodelista-eames-interior

The classic Eames chair. It never goes out of style. It’s beautiful and functional. In recent years there’s been so many companies selling replicas of the design, but I’m here to discuss quality. In an ideal world I would buy an actual Eames chair, because I’m all for quality and original design, but I just can’t afford to, even the vintage chairs in local antique shops are out of this world expensive. Considering I’d want to have 6 chairs in total for the office and dining area, the real deal just isn’t going to happen. When we first moved into […]

Front Door Hardware Update

modern door hardware

A few weeks ago I blogged about updating our front door hardware. Well the hardware arrived and we finally got around to putting it on the door. It’s awesome and the best part is it’s almost impossible to lock myself out of the house now! This was the before, a mismatched set of industrial locks. The only difficult part of the installation was getting the square backplates to line up and be level, but after a few adjustments it looks great. I’ve already noticed a huge difference in terms of function. When I come home with bags of groceries, it’s […]
