Ikea Catalog Circa 1965

Just as the 2010 IKEA catalog comes out, I came across a few photos of a catalog from 1965. It’s funny, the layout and fonts still manage to  give off that “ikea” feeling. I think the images really speak for themselves and honestly I wish they still made some of the pieces that are shown in these pages.

Yarn Bombing

Remember when you were younger, watching your granparents, aunts and others, knitting and crocheting various items. Well it seems the art of crocheting and knitting is back. I’m really loving these designs by KTBdesigns on Etsy. They’re too adorable for words. See below. As for knitting, i’ve spotted some city buses covered up in it and then did a google search and discovered the term for this is called “knit bombing” or “yarn bombing.”  This means that people knit large amounts in various colours and then place it on a random object as public art. It makes quite an impact!

Summer Storm

Last night was one of the most surreal nights ever. There was a crazy thunderstorm right along with the most beautiful sunset and then we had fireworks (which I didn’t get to go watch, it was too rainy for me). But! I did manage to find some timelapse footage on youtube from the entire day. I wish there was more lightning footage, it was all around the whole city and lasted for hours.

Local Summer Secret

I’ve always been a fan of eating local, especially in the Summer season when it’s a little bit easier. A while ago I was given the most delicious gift. I was skeptical about it at first, put it away in the pantry for a few months and then decided i’d give them a chance once Summer arrived. Local Cherries in Sambuca from a company called Where The Garden Grows Photo Credit: Krishkat They just happen to be their #1 selling product and I have to say, probably the best gift you could get someone, the flavours are just amazing especially when […]

Clutter Bug Be Gone

My plan in the next month or so, is to turn my storage room into a functioning craft/storage space. Right now it’s just filled with random  boxes and it’s totally not an enjoyable space. It’s REALLY tiny, but i’m hoping I can create a fun place to sew, craft and keep all my odds and ends in. I found a few ideas of what I’m hoping to do, visual inspiration is always helpful. Looks like a trip to Ikea is definitely needed sometime soon. These cute white boxes will probably help with the visual clutter, I’m hoping to keep everything […]

The Reusable Bag: Baggu

So the world is trying to stop the use of the plastic bag by replacing them with reusable bags. The thing is, reusable bags are just as bad, every company is producing them, a lot of them are still made from plastics, it takes a toll on the environment to produce the bags in factories and eventually these bags will end up in landfills. But I guess somehow, saying no to plastic and bringing your own bag is better in the long run. I came across some amazingly designed reusable bags today and I had to share them with you! […]

New Fashion Trend?

A while ago I was walking down fashionable Granville street in Vancouver, when I was doing a little window shopping and spotted an amazing new fashion trend, i’ve never ever laughed so hard in my life. I call it “The Bag-Hat” it literally is a bag on the mannequins head. Could it be that the window dresser just plain forgot where they left the bag?

Mysterious Vancouver Land

I’ve often wondered why this lot sits empty for years in downtown, Vancouver. With perfect grass that’s always groomed, the sun is always shinning on it, yet there’s one problem, it’s locked up for no one to use! This is near Yaletown. Why can’t it be filled with benches and tables for all the people that work in Yaletown to gather and eat lunch. The grass really is greener on the other side.

The Cedar Bench

A few weeks ago my boyfriend and I built a large bench for my patio. I decided I wanted to sell my plastic andarondac chairs and have something that I could actually lounge on. What’s amazing is that I now have twice as much seating as well as storage. This bench ended up costing half of what i’d pay for one in a store and the benefit is that I could customize the length to fit my patio perfectly. Most quality wood benches in the store are anywhere from $100 – $300 and my bench was about $50. All the […]
