Unique Cake Inspiration and Cake Obsessions

cake inspiration

I recently created a board on my Pinterest account called “Eat Cake” because, why not? Cakes are delicious, really pretty to look at and make special occasions even better. Oh and next month is my birthday month so it’s been on my mind even more, you can’t have a birthday without a slice! Actually the obsession started a long time ago, probably when I was a child, I always loved baking with my mom and I still love baking today. It really got into full swing a few years ago when I went to a Design Sponge book signing at Anthropologie […]

Modern Meets Traditional Bathroom Design

luxury bathroom interior design

I recently took some photos of a luxury bathroom renovation here in Vancouver, British Columbia. It may not be my personal style, but you can’t help but love the finishes in this space. The mix of traditional elements and slick modern design somehow fits together in perfect harmony. The soft pastels in the tile and wall colour contrast with the dark marble floors. I’m seriously obsessing over the floors, they have so much impact in the space, they ground the airiness of the pastel colours and bring in a bit of a masculine feature into a very feminine space creating […]

Food Plating Workshop with Chef Juno Kim

chef juno kim workshop

This past weekend I did a workshop with Chef Juno Kim. He is a Vancouver based chef that does pop-up diners, food styling, catering and cooking lessons. Check out his instagram account to see his beautiful creations and visit his website for more information. Photos from Juno’s instagram account Now for the details. The workshop was $35 (really great value!). We were all instructed to bring our phones, chargers and a notebook. The afternoon began at 1pm and the class gathered in the private room located at The Juice Truck’s retail location. There was a long table with containers of organic salads, vegetables and […]

The Perfect Earl Grey Tea

Earl Grey Tea

I’m sharing a secret. I love Earl Grey tea and for years I thought I was enjoying a good cup, but then I went to a bridal shower at a local tea shop and discovered the most amazing Earl Grey tea on the planet. I’m not even exaggerating, it’s really that good.

visualheart has a Society6 Shop

I recently launched a society6 shop to keep my creativity flowing while being unemployed. I ordered a few of my designs to check out the quality and I have to say it’s pretty great! The fabrics are polyester which makes them pretty durable and they are surprisingly soft. The graphics printed really clear too, I was worried about that because I work with a lot of my own photography. Society6 ships to Canada, my tip to keep shipping fees, border fees and extra taxes down, order pillows without stuffing, it makes the package smaller and you’ll likely avoid paying additional fees when […]

Recipe Adventure: Carrot Cake

It’s been top secret for years, but I’ve decided to share my no fail, all flavour, super moist Carrot Cake recipe. This is my go-to recipe for family gatherings and tea parties. This carrot cake has tons of texture, lots of carrot and plenty of nuts, raisins and spices. The best part is the delicious crust that forms on the outside, perfect to eat plain on it’s own, but even more delicious to load on a luxurious layer of fresh whipped cream cheese frosting. Yum! Ingredients 4 eggs 1/2 cup butter 2 cups brown sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 cups flour […]

Maternity Photography

I recently got a chance to take photos of my very pregnant friend. I haven’t really done much photography of people and was super excited to get this chance to experiment. I decided I wanted to go for sunny blown out lighting that makes for a dreamy mood. Here’s a few photos from the session:

Chinese New Year 2010

Chinese New Year was special this year. It just happen to take place during the Olympics, Valentines Day as well as right near my birthday, so it was just so much celebration all at once. On that Sunday I joined a bunch of people for a Dim Sum style brunch, before we headed out to Chinatown. Unfortunately we didn’t make it in time to see the parade, but it was still pretty busy with many things to explore. The building below was renovated and in the courtyard at the back was an art installation with beautiful white umbrellas joined together […]

The Copper Cowgirl

Since the Olympics began, it’s been absolutely crazy in this city. Music, large crowds, line ups, traffic, noise, fireworks, etc etc. Amazingly i’ve been able to spot a few gems and this girl is one of them. Down on Robson Street she stands, surrounded by a crowd. She’s originally from Victoria, British Columbia but has now found a temporary home in Vancouver during the Olympics. Her name is Claire and she’s the Copper Cowgirl. You should visit her and show her some appreciation, she’s pretty awesome!
