High Style, Low Price: Article Ceni Sofa in Pyrite Gray

Article Ceni Sofa

I did it! I finally purchased a sofa and not just any sofa, I bought one online from Article. If you know me, you will know this is totally out of character! I have huge fears of buying stuff online, I worry about quality, if there will be extra charges upon arrival and mostly I hate not being able to touch and feel the product before buying with the chance of having major regret when it arrives. So I bet you’re wondering what made me go a head with the purchase? Well, after spending a few years researching sofas (I even […]

Finding the Perfect Office Chair

The perfect office chair

You guys, the struggle is very real, I’ve been hunting for the perfect office chair forever and still haven’t found what I want, but I’m here to share my narrowed down list of a few chairs I think are awesome. Below is a photo of the current office setup, except in real life there’s a lot more papers and it’s very messy. For the last few years I’ve had knock-off Eames style chairs, but they wore horribly, I chat about that in this blog post over here. It’s gotten to the point where I actually need to find replacements, before […]

Decorating Naturally with UncommonGoods

uncommon goods home decor

I’ve been changing up my decorating style over the last few years, removing colour and moving towards natural elements like wood and textured fabrics. Since I live in an open plan loft apartment having too much colour can feel busy, including more natural elements creates a sense of calmness. I got excited when I discovered UncommonGoods after they reached out to me to select some of my favourite items from their website. If you don’t already know, UncommonGoods is an online shop where you can find sustainable, recycled and organic products. They work with artists and small manufacturers to provide […]

5 Tips For Styling Your Coffee Table

5 Tips For Styling Your Coffee Table

Do you need help figuring out how to style your coffee table? Guess what, so do I, kind of, but only because I’m having trouble finding a coffee table I love and that fits in the space. I don’t have room for a large coffee table, something longer and narrow might be nice. I’ve been looking on Charish for some ideas, it’s a great place for vintage and unique finds. We currently use a vintage filing cabinet that Andrew has owned for many years, while I love the look of it, it’s really not functional as it’s fairly small. It has enough […]

Using Texture and Pattern in Home Decor

spring-textures-interior-design

I love colour but generally don’t use too much in my own home decor and my client projects. I prefer working with textures. I like to keep my palettes neutral and calm with touches of colour but lately I’ve been really into mixing things up with texture and pattern. For Spring 2016, home decor is all about bringing in texture and pattern with items like textiles, metallic finishes, backsplash tiles and countertops, while keeping the colours minimal. I’ve gathered some inspiration below for a living space and a kitchen. Notice how the colours are cohesive so all the textures can work well […]

Reupholstered Mid-Century Chairs

Last month I shared with you that our reupholstered mid-century chairs are happening! After a few weeks they were reupholstered and today we brought them home. You have no idea how excited and nervous I was. I have been wanting to get these chairs done for years, I had even blogged about how I wanted them to look after endlessly looking for inspiration on Pinterest, you can read about that over here. I was so scared they wouldn’t look the way I had imagined in my mind, plus I have serious commitment issues, so picking a fabric took forever. Finally going a head with […]

We’re Getting Our Vintage Chairs Upholstered

vintage chair before

It only took just over a year, but we’ve finally started the process to get our vintage mid century chairs upholstered. I had written about it many months ago and now it’s finally becoming a reality! So far Andrew has refinished the wood and cleaned up the brass on the arms and legs. Here’s a before and after of that process. The arms and legs were sanded down to reveal the wood grain and a clear finished was applied. Here’s some before photos of the 2 chairs, one chair is obviously in better condition than the other, but both have holes […]

Home Decor Ideas with Pantone Color of the Year

home decor pantone 2016

It took me a long time to warm up to the Pantone 2016 colors of the year. I couldn’t figure out how I’d use them in home decor because I kept thinking of the 1980’s. I’ll admit, it wasn’t love at first sight, but then I started thinking about all the objects I admire that use these colors or various shades of them and realized they can be quite beautiful if they’re used in the right way. It’s all about perspective and style. There’s 2 colors, one is Rose Quartz and the other is Serenity. You can read more about […]

Black, White and Copper Kitchen Inspiration

black white and copper kitchen inspiration

I don’t know about you guys, but I constantly get this urge to remove all colour from my home and stick with a black and white scheme. I think I’ve been spending too much time on Pinterest looking at minimalist interiors. There’s just something so fresh about a clean white space with contrasting black accents and wood to warm it up. Then I always think about reality and how mostly every kitchen accessory we have is colourful, the fridge is green, the sofa is turquoise, our vintage chairs are colourful and so is every piece of art we have. I […]

Replica Eames Chair: Discussions on Quality

The classic Eames chair. It never goes out of style. It’s beautiful and functional. In recent years there’s been so many companies selling replicas of the design, but I’m here to discuss quality. In an ideal world I would buy an actual Eames chair, because I’m all for quality and original design, but I just can’t afford to, even the vintage chairs in local antique shops are out of this world expensive. Considering I’d want to have 6 chairs in total for the office and dining area, the real deal just isn’t going to happen. When we first moved into […]

Front Door Hardware Update

modern door hardware

A few weeks ago I blogged about updating our front door hardware. Well the hardware arrived and we finally got around to putting it on the door. It’s awesome and the best part is it’s almost impossible to lock myself out of the house now! This was the before, a mismatched set of industrial locks. The only difficult part of the installation was getting the square backplates to line up and be level, but after a few adjustments it looks great. I’ve already noticed a huge difference in terms of function. When I come home with bags of groceries, it’s […]

Front Door Hardware

Modern front door hardware by Emtek from Bradford Hardware

We’ve lived in our apartment for almost 4 years and when we moved in we said we’d change the front door hardware, but never really got around to it until now. We did a mini front door makeover by painting the door and replacing the numbers for something more modern, you can check that out here. The door really became an issue for me a few years ago when I locked myself out of our apartment because the middle lock in the photo below was set in the lock position from the inside and I wasn’t aware of it. When […]
