Home Decor Ideas with Pantone Color of the Year

It took me a long time to warm up to the Pantone 2016 colors of the year. I couldn’t figure out how I’d use them in home decor because I kept thinking of the 1980’s. I’ll admit, it wasn’t love at first sight, but then I started thinking about all the objects I admire that use these colors or various shades of them and realized they can be quite beautiful if they’re used in the right way. It’s all about perspective and style.

There’s 2 colors, one is Rose Quartz and the other is Serenity. You can read more about them over at the Pantone website. I find the 2 Pantone colors very calming and ethereal and if you use them correctly, in the right amounts they won’t look like the 80’s threw up in your living room.

I’ve gathered some inspiration for home decor using these colors. What I like is that they are soft enough that it won’t overpower your room, especially if you use them in small amounts. I think that’s the key, use them as accents that you can change out over time.

They both go really great with neutrals like grey and white and would also pair great with black, especially matte black. If you have a grey or black sofa, adding a few Rose Quartz or Serenity throw pillows would add a sense of calm to your space. You can also look for affordable art that uses these colours, a great place to look is on Society6.com, you can search by color which is a very useful feature to find something that works with your existing home decor.

Also realize that these two colours can be loosely interpreted, for example  in home decor the Rose Quartz can be interpreted as metallic rose gold like the lamp I’ve shown below. You can also find these colors in darker or lighter shades.

  1. What a gorgeous, inspiration-filled post. Once you reinterpreted the colors, they didn’t look 1980s anymore, they looked elegant. (Being old enough to have lived through that era, I would not be keen on repeating it!)
